Who am I?

The question here is about why is it important to know yourself.

Some people would live their whole life without figuring out who they really are and what is important to have with their lives.

They have never gone on a self discovery journey and don’t know what would make them feel fulfilled.

Who you are is not just a word or a slogan on a marketing campaign that says something about “uncover your true self” or something to that impact.

So, “what does it mean?” You ask yourself!

It is more about:

What makes you comfortable, what makes your heart sing again?

Now, I feel you are thinking: “oh no, another dreamer that says it is all sunshine and rainbows”

Well, I’m NOT inviting you to drop everything that makes you bored or demotivated and start having fun for the rest of your life.

I’m talking about the purpose that would give you the drive to do your heavy lifting of your day to day life and still be able to have a smile on your face at the end of the day.

Coping with change:

We change…

Even when we are not noticing it, what makes you motivated today could change in a couple of weeks, months or even years and you could find yourself then back at where you started.

So it is very important to have something like an inner compass that always points at your own true north.

I would like to emphasize how important it is to notice the change in ourselves and to be able to embrace it.

That could happen using the emotions exercise that might help us learn more about our emotions and how to cope with them.

You inner compass:

That compass is the reason that you can always refer to when asking yourself the hard question of: “why do I keep doing this?”

Why do I keep working at this job?

Why do I run these kilometers?

Why do I wake up every morning?

It is not so easy to have a clear answer, It is a lifelong journey of self discovery.

So what do I need?

We all need that reason, our reasons differ because we are different people.

But I promise that the answer is always deeper than: “ to put dinner on the table”

Or “to be able to pay rent”

Here are some resources on asking the hard question of who I am and some ways to answer those questions:

Exercise for Paying Attention to Your Emotions

Exercise for Identifying Your Values
